Mercedes-Benz V-Klasse 2014

In 2014, the Mercedes-Benz V-Klasse Base belongs to the return of the V-Klasse name with the 447 series. That generation represents a clear step forward for Mercedes-Benz’s large passenger carrier, with styling and positioning moving closer to the brand’s passenger-car world and a stronger emphasis on comfort. The Base version sits at the entry level, with no specific technical details stated in the source dossier, but it follows the general character of the new family. It indirectly succeeds the Viano logic of the 639 series, whose production ended in August 2014.

History

The V-Klasse first appeared in 1996 with the 638 series, presented by Mercedes-Benz as a multi-seat passenger vehicle. From the outset, it was technically related to the Vito, but its layout and intent were more passenger-oriented, with a particular focus on safety. In March 1999, the 638 series was updated across several areas, including the powertrain, exterior appearance, cabin and equipment. In that early phase, the V 220 CDI became one of the most representative versions of the range.

A second generation followed in 2003 with the 639 series. The passenger version was sold as the Viano, while the Vito remained the utility derivative. That generation stayed in production until August 2014. The 447 series then took over from 2014 and brought the V-Klasse name back. It moved the model further upmarket with more driver-assistance features, greater comfort and wider personalization options. In 2019, some versions gained further mechanical and technical updates, but those developments fall outside the scope of the 2014 Base version.

Production

Production of the 447 series began in 2014, the year the V-Klasse name returned. The dossier mainly notes that the previous generation, the 639 series sold as Viano for passenger use, ended production in August 2014. For the 2014 Base version, no finer production data is provided regarding output, assembly location or production split.

Evolution

The 2014 V-Klasse Base belongs to the 447 series, which significantly renewed the lineage. Compared with the 639 series, the model adopted a more premium presentation and a visual identity closer to Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. The change was not only about styling: the overall positioning moved toward more comfort and a richer technology offering. The Base version, however, remained the simplest trim in the range, without the more prominent features associated with higher specifications in the dossier.

In the model’s evolution, the 2014 V-Klasse therefore mainly represents the return of the historic name and an upmarket shift. Later 447-series versions would receive additional technical updates, but for 2014 the Base is best understood as the entry point to this new generation.

Variants

In the information provided, the Base version is not described with specific equipment, so it should be understood as the entry-level trim of the 2014 V-Klasse. It sits below the more distinctive trim lines of the 447 series, although the dossier does not detail those exact contents for this model year.

To place this Base version properly, it is best to view it within the range hierarchy. The 447 series is defined by a higher level of comfort than earlier generations and by a more premium orientation. The Base keeps that overall architecture, but with a more restrained presentation and content than better-equipped variants. The source material does not allow anything more specific without speculation.
