Mercedes-Benz AMG One 2022

The production Mercedes-AMG ONE was unveiled on June 1, 2022, exactly 55 years after AMG was founded. Its first official dynamic public appearance followed a few weeks later at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom. Mercedes-AMG also emphasizes that the powertrain was developed with specialists in Brixworth, the British center associated with Mercedes competition engines.

Production of the Mercedes-AMG ONE was limited to 275 cars, all allocated before customer deliveries began. Mercedes-AMG used a specialist manufacturing arrangement in the United Kingdom, reflecting the model’s technical relationship with Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains. According to Top Gear, the first customers received their cars in autumn 2022, while the final examples were delivered by the end of 2023. The very small production run positions the ONE as both a technology showcase and a collector car, in addition to its role as a high-performance vehicle. It was not developed as a conventional annual model range; the production cars belong to the same series generation introduced in 2022.

Press coverage of the Mercedes-AMG ONE has focused on its Formula 1-derived engine and the unusually difficult development process behind it. Road & Track presented the production car as the result of a project that had taken almost five years to reach completion, highlighting its competition-inspired transmission and 11,000-rpm engine limit. In a later road and track evaluation, Top Gear praised the car for remaining faithful to the idea of making Formula 1 technology usable on public roads, while also noting its unusual driving position, very loud cabin, and complex operating character. The ONE’s reputation therefore rests as much on its uncompromising engineering concept as on its outright performance.
