Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé 2011
Presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe introduced the C 204 body style derived from the W 204-generation sedan. Its two-door layout, lower roofline and four-seat cabin gave the C-Class a more individual and sporting character. The design featured a long bonnet, steeply inclined windscreen, narrow C-pillar and compact rear section, while retaining clear visual links with the wider C-Class family. Mercedes-Benz positioned the car as a compact entry point into its coupe range and began sales in June 2011, depending on market. Launch versions used direct-injection petrol and diesel engines, with extensive safety technology and the seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission available or standard according to engine and market.

History
The C 204 C-Class Coupe arrived during the development of the 204-series family, whose sedan was introduced in 2007 and estate followed shortly afterwards. Mercedes-Benz gave the coupe its world premiere at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. It became the first conventional compact coupe in this C-Class family, replacing the earlier 203-series Sport Coupe and CLC with a model based directly on the sedan platform. Its styling followed traditional three-box coupe proportions, combining a long bonnet, set-back passenger compartment and extended roofline. The interior shared much of its architecture with the sedan but used four individual seats and an easier rear-seat entry arrangement. The initial engine line-up differed by market and included models such as the C 180, C 250, C 350, C 220 CDI and C 250 CDI. The range later expanded with AMG derivatives and the North American C 350 4MATIC. C 204 coupe production continued until 2015.

Anecdotes
The C-Class Coupe made its world debut during Mercedes-Benz’s 125th anniversary year. The company also described it as an entry into a new segment: the conventional compact coupe category. Another market-specific detail concerns the C 350 4MATIC, developed for North America rather than offered globally. Mercedes-Benz states that approximately 5,500 examples of this all-wheel-drive version were produced before the end of the model’s production run.
Production
The 2011 C-Class Coupe belongs to the 204 series and carries the internal C 204 designation. Mercedes-Benz records the coupe’s production period as 2011 to 2015, with production ending in June 2015 for this generation. The manufacturer’s historical archive reports 150,829 204-series coupes built by the end of 2013, within a total of 2,417,117 vehicles from the broader 204 series, including sedans, estates and coupes. That figure is therefore not the final lifetime total for the coupe, because production continued into 2015. Manufacturing involved several Mercedes-Benz plants, although the sources consulted do not establish a complete plant-by-plant breakdown for every 2011 specification or market version.
Press reception
Contemporary road tests generally viewed the C-Class Coupe as an elegant and credible alternative to the BMW 3 Series Coupe and Audi A5. Reviews praised its distinctive styling, perceived cabin quality and broad choice of engines. Auto Express highlighted the exterior design and equipment, while criticising the restricted rear accommodation, less communicative steering than the BMW and a ride that could feel firm. Autocar noted the coupe’s close relationship with the sedan and its 450-litre luggage capacity. Taken together, the reviews presented the car as a refined, well-equipped and image-conscious coupe, with a stronger grand-touring character than a sharp, driver-focused personality. The AMG versions were treated separately because their performance and suspension made them substantially more sporting than the regular range.
