Brand history

Founded in 1914 in Bologna by brothers Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto Maserati, the company initially produced spark plugs for aircraft engines during World War I. In 1926, Mario Maserati, another family member, designed the iconic trident logo. The first automobile model, the Tipo 26, was introduced in 1926, marking the start of race car production. In the 1930s, Maserati achieved racing success, notably with Tazio Nuvolari's victories in 1933 and 1934. After World War II, the brand expanded its lineup to include sports and grand touring cars, such as the 3500 GT in 1957 and the Ghibli in 1967. In 1975, Alejandro de Tomaso acquired Maserati, followed by Fiat in 1993. In 2021, Maserati became a subsidiary of Stellantis, a multinational automotive group formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the PSA Group.
