History

The Boxster began as a concept shown in Detroit in January 1993, and Porsche kept much of that study’s shape when series production started in the summer of 1996 for the 1997 model year. The first production car, known as the 986, used a 2.5-liter flat six with liquid cooling and four valves per cylinder.
