Peugeot 2008 2023

The Peugeot 2008 Base 2023 belongs to the second generation of Peugeot’s urban crossover, introduced at the end of 2019 and updated in 2023. In its entry-level form, it sits at the core of a range designed to remain compact, versatile, and easy to live with every day. The model keeps the traits that defined the 2008 from the beginning: a raised driving position, city-friendly dimensions, and a more SUV-like look than a conventional hatchback. For 2023, the restyle mainly revised the styling and certain equipment items depending on the market, without changing the vehicle’s overall character. The Base variant is therefore defined less by detailed technical differences than by its accessible position within the lineup.

History

The 2008 first appeared in 2013 as Peugeot’s answer to the rise of the urban crossover. It extended the momentum of the 208 while building on Peugeot’s experience with the 3008. At the time, the brand positioned it as a global model developed with teams in Europe, China, and Latin America, while European-market cars were built in Mulhouse. Its recipe combined compact dimensions, day-to-day practicality, and a driving position higher than that of a conventional small hatchback. Grip Control was among the available features intended to improve traction on certain surfaces, without turning the 2008 into a true off-roader.

A major update followed in 2016, giving it a more SUV-like appearance with a more upright grille, fender extensions, and new trims including GT Line. The second generation was unveiled in June 2019 and went on sale before the end of that year. Longer and based on the CMP platform, it expanded the range with the electric e-2008. Built in Vigo, it was updated in 2023. That facelift brought styling changes and technical progress, especially for the electric version, but it did not create a new generation.

Production

The second-generation Peugeot 2008, including the Base 2023 version, is produced in Vigo, Spain. The dossier gives no more precise information on the assembly line, version allocation, or manufacturing specifics for the Base trim. By contrast, the first generation was built for Europe in Mulhouse, which clearly distinguishes the two production periods.

Evolution

In evolutionary terms, the 2008 Base 2023 belongs to the facelifted second generation. It should not be confused with the 2013 model, which was shorter and visually softer. The 2023 car uses a more sculpted body, with a revised front end and updated lighting signatures. The dossier states that this restyle coincided with improved electric powertrains and the announced arrival of a hybrid in 2024, placing the Base 2023 in a transition phase for the range.

For a Base version, the exact differences depend heavily on the market and trim structure. The dossier provides no model-specific equipment or mechanical details for this variant. In practice, its significance is mainly as the entry point into the 2023 lineup, within a range where the overall styling, lighting, and certain presentation details are the main identification cues.

Variants

Within the 2008 family, the Base name refers to an entry-level version, but the dossier does not detail its exact 2023 content. It therefore needs to be placed in the range rather than described through specific equipment. On the second generation, Peugeot mainly uses trim levels such as Active, Allure, and GT depending on the country; Base can be understood as a simpler or more affordable derivative, although the supplied text does not specify its exact market positioning.

The main differences among 2008 models are largely defined by generation, powertrain, and market. Internal-combustion versions and the e-2008 coexist in the second generation, while the 2023 facelift changes the front-end design, lighting signatures, and some trim details. To identify a Base 2023 reliably, the year, exterior styling, and vehicle documents matter more than the 2008 badge alone.
