McLaren 765LT Spider 2021

In evolutionary terms, the 765LT Spider follows the 765LT coupé very closely. Both versions share the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, rear-wheel drive, a seven-speed SSG transmission, and a carbon-fiber chassis. The main difference is the retractable hardtop, electrically operated and stated to complete its open or close cycle in 11 seconds. The Spider also includes an electric rear window, which helps alter the cabin’s sound character. Structural reinforcement for the open body can affect mass and rigidity, but McLaren says the Spider is 80 kg lighter than a 720S Spider. Official performance remains very much in line with the coupé’s mission, with 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of about 332 km/h.

Within the 765LT family, two body styles stand out: the 2020 coupé and the 2021 Spider. The open-top version does not alter the core mechanical recipe, but it adds a more versatile use case thanks to its retractable hardtop. Differences between individual cars can then come from market specifications, weight-saving options, brakes, seats, or MSO personalization. The dossier also notes that lightweight seats, high-performance brakes, and certain carbon-fiber panels were not necessarily fitted to every car. For a Spider, the most distinctive features are the retractable roof and the electric rear window, while the more aggressive aerodynamics and the four titanium exhaust outlets help separate it from a standard 720S.
