History

Introduced in March 1968 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Espada 400 GT Coupé was a milestone for Lamborghini. Ferruccio Lamborghini aimed to produce a car that combined power with comfort for four passengers. This first series, produced from 1968 to 1969, featured a 4-liter V12 engine delivering 325 horsepower and was designed by Bertone with a clean, refined exterior. With just 186 units made, it set the foundation for three successive series, each improving on the last.

Production

The 1968 Lamborghini Espada Coupé belongs to the Series I, with a total production of 186 units between 1968 and 1969. This series marks the starting point of the Espada line and is relatively rare, prized for its original styling and high-performance V12 engine. Its limited production grants this version a distinguished place in Lamborghini's history.

Evolution

The 1968 Lamborghini Espada Coupé represents the Series I, distinguished by an interior inspired by the Marzal prototype and a dashboard featuring octagonal instruments. It serves as the starting point for a lineage where later series introduced changes such as revamped dashboards, a slight power boost, updated wheels, and options like power steering. This first version encapsulates the original style and performance of the Espada.

Variants

The 1968 Espada Coupé stands as the original iteration of Lamborghini's four-seater model. While no specific special variants for this year are noted, the Espada evolved through two more series with significant technical and aesthetic enhancements. Notably, a VIP version produced in limited numbers emerged later, but this pertains to subsequent production years.
