Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae 2021

Introduced in July 2021, the Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae is the final version of the Aventador family. Its 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 produces 780 CV at 8,500 rpm, the highest output Lamborghini had announced for a standard-production naturally aspirated V12 at the time. According to the manufacturer, the coupe reaches 355 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The Ultimae combines the performance character of the Aventador SVJ with the more refined styling of the Aventador S. Limited to 350 coupe examples, it brought an eleven-year chapter to a close after the Aventador LP 700-4 debuted in 2011.

History

The Lamborghini Aventador was unveiled in 2011 as the successor to the Murciélago. From the beginning, it stood out with a carbon-fiber monocoque, a longitudinally mounted rear V12 and an angular design that became one of the brand’s defining shapes. The car also introduced a new generation of Lamborghini dynamic technology, including all-wheel drive and selectable driving modes. During its career, the family expanded with a Roadster, the Superveloce, the Aventador S and the extreme SVJ. The LP 780-4 Ultimae brought together several technical and design developments from those versions. Lamborghini introduced it in 2021 as the definitive Aventador and as one of the final non-hybrid, naturally aspirated V12 models from the company. Aventador production ended in 2022 after eleven years, shortly before the arrival of the hybrid Revuelto.

Anecdotes

The name Ultimae emphasizes the car’s role as the final Aventador. In April 2022, Lamborghini reported that the last planned coupe was sold at auction together with an associated NFT for USD 1.6 million. A few months later, an Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster marked the end of production for the family.

Production

Lamborghini announced a numbered production run of 350 Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae coupes and 250 Roadsters, for a combined total of 600 cars across both body styles. The first official details were released in July 2021 when the model was unveiled. By May 2022, Lamborghini stated that all Ultimae examples had been sold, while Aventador production was expected to conclude in the following months. Production of the wider Aventador family officially ended in 2022. These figures refer specifically to the Ultimae series and should not be confused with the total number of cars built across every Aventador derivative.

Press reception

Automotive publications generally viewed the Ultimae as a fitting conclusion to the Aventador story. MotorTrend highlighted its position between SVJ-level performance and a less overtly aggressive appearance, while noting that the coupe remained heavier than the SVJ despite producing more power. Car and Driver described the car as a collection of notable elements from the Aventador range and emphasized its role as the final V12 derivative. Road & Track focused on its importance as a bridge before Lamborghini’s move toward electrification. Across these reviews, the common conclusion was that the Ultimae is a final synthesis of the family rather than an entirely new generation.

Evolution

The Ultimae is the Aventador’s technical culmination rather than a completely new concept. Its engine uses titanium intake valves to reach 780 CV, while the car retains the carbon-fiber monocoque structure used throughout the family since 2011. The rear-wheel-steering system introduced with the Aventador S is combined with the performance-oriented development associated with the SVJ. The result is intended to balance dynamic ability with a more refined presentation. Compared with the most track-focused Aventador versions, the Ultimae offers a broader interpretation of the final model, blending speed, stability and visual restraint within the limits of Lamborghini’s dramatic design language.

Variants

The Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae was offered in two main body styles: coupe and Roadster. Production was limited to 350 coupes and 250 roadsters. Both versions use the same 780-CV naturally aspirated V12 and electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. Lamborghini quotes a 0-to-100-km/h time of 2.8 seconds for the coupe and 2.9 seconds for the Roadster. The most obvious distinction is the roof arrangement: the Roadster uses two removable hardtop panels produced with a high-pressure RTM molding process. Both variants follow the same product philosophy, combining elements associated with the elegant Aventador S and the performance-focused SVJ.
