BMW X6 2019

The 2019 BMW X6 Base belongs to the third generation of BMW’s large high-riding coupe, identified by the G06 code. In 2019, the model grew longer and wider than the F16 while keeping the coupe-like profile and the road-focused character that define the X6 concept. The Base version sits at the entry point of the range, with no specific equipment details given in the dossier, but it benefits from the broader generational update introduced that year. The X6 still follows BMW’s Sports Activity Coupé idea, first announced in the late 2000s.

History

BMW introduced the X6 at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2008, following the creation of a new vehicle category: the Sports Activity Coupé. From the beginning, the model combined BMW X attributes with a coupe-style roofline and a stronger focus on road behavior. xDrive all-wheel drive was standard, and Dynamic Performance Control could actively distribute torque between the rear wheels to improve traction and cornering agility.

The first-generation E71 also became the basis for notable derivatives. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6, shown in 2009, paired a gasoline V8 with two electric motors. Around the same period, the X6 M arrived from 2009 onward with a much sportier interpretation and a BMW M-specific setup. In 2014, the F16 generation kept the same overall formula while improving efficiency, interior space, driver assistance, and perceived quality. BMW then unveiled the G06 in 2019, making it larger and more modern, and BMW said commercial launch began in November 2019.

Production

The G06-generation X6 began its commercial career at the end of 2019, with BMW stating that launch started in November of that year. The dossier also specifies that X6 production takes place in Spartanburg, in the United States, together with the X5. This applies to the model range as a whole and places the 2019 Base version within the same production continuity.

Evolution

The 2019 X6 Base marks the arrival of the G06 generation. Compared with the F16, the body is 26 mm longer and 15 mm wider, while also sitting lower. The design becomes more sculpted, with a stronger visual presence and a more advanced electronic architecture. Some examples can also feature an illuminated grille, although that depends on market and equipment level.

Within the range, the Base version serves as the entry model. The dossier does not specify its unique equipment, so any description must remain general. It fits into the X6’s broader move toward more digital technology, greater modernity, and a more sophisticated chassis setup. The core idea remains unchanged: a coupe-style SUV focused more on road use than off-road intent.

Variants

In the X6 story, the most notable versions have often illustrated the range’s evolution rather than changing its basic concept. On the first generation, the xDrive35i and xDrive50i defined the U.S. offering, while the X6 M delivered a high-performance interpretation and the ActiveHybrid X6 represented an early attempt at electrification. With the F16, BMW expanded the lineup with more efficient gasoline and diesel versions depending on market, including xDrive50i, xDrive30d, and M50d.

The 2019 BMW X6 Base sits at the entry point of the G06 generation and acts as the reference configuration before more richly equipped or more powerful variants, depending on country. The dossier also notes that engine names and content vary by market. For that reason, the Base version should be understood as the standard setup for the new generation, without adding equipment details that are not provided.
