Bentley Continental GTC 2019

The 2019 Bentley Continental GTC belongs to the modern Continental family, a range created to combine high performance with the brand’s traditional luxury. Within the model history, the GTC has a special role as the convertible version, following the Continental GT and standing alongside the other modern Continental derivatives. For 2019, it sits within a lineage that dates back to 2005 in its current form and is best understood as a grand tourer designed for open-air driving in a refined setting. Without adding unverified technical details, it can be described as the more open and elegant expression of the Continental concept.

History

The Bentley Continental name dates back to 1952 with the R-Type Continental, created to deliver exceptional performance while preserving the luxury associated with the brand. The range then evolved through the S1, S2, and S3 models, built between 1955 and 1965, each bringing improvements in comfort and performance. After a pause, the Continental name returned in 1984 with the Continental Convertible, an elegant four-seat drop-top. In 1991, the Continental R carried the story forward with stronger performance and a more distinctive design. The modern era began in 2003 with the Continental GT, and the Continental GTC was added in 2005 as the convertible derivative. In 2019, the GTC therefore belongs to this contemporary phase of the lineage, where grand touring character and refinement remain central.

Evolution

Compared with the broader Continental timeline, the GTC shows the shift into the modern generation launched in 2003. For that period, the dossier highlights the arrival of W12 and V8 engines, along with more advanced technologies such as adaptive air suspension and a 48-volt roll control system. As the convertible version, the GTC builds on that contemporary basis while adding open-air usability. For 2019, it should therefore be understood mainly as a more open interpretation of the modern Continental, with comfort, technical sophistication, and driving enjoyment as the key themes.

Variants

Within the modern Continental family, several variants have clearly defined roles. The Continental GT is the starting point of the modern generation, with a refined grand touring approach. The Continental GTC, introduced in 2005, is the convertible version and provides open-air driving. The Flying Spur, also launched in 2005, follows a luxury sedan formula focused on comfort. Finally, the Supersports, introduced in 2009, represents the most performance-oriented direction in the range. In 2019, the GTC therefore stands out less for extreme performance and more for its open character and elegant grand touring position.
