Bentley Continental GTC 2011

The 2011 Bentley Continental GTC sits within the brand’s long tradition of luxury grand tourers. In the modern Continental family, the GTC represents the convertible interpretation, combining open-air driving with the refinement and performance focus associated with the name. It follows the Continental GT introduced in 2003 and builds on the GTC line launched in 2005, which brought a drop-top body style to the range. In 2011, the Continental GTC remains one of the most prestigious forms of the Continental, positioned around elegance, technology, and grand-touring character.

History

The Continental story began in 1952 with the R-Type Continental, created to combine exceptional performance with Bentley’s traditional luxury. That first era continued through the S1, S2, and S3, each one bringing changes in comfort and overall refinement. After a break, the Continental name returned in 1984 with the Continental Convertible, an elegant four-seat open car. The Continental R, introduced in 1991, then strengthened the image of a more powerful and distinctive Bentley. The modern generation took shape in 2003 with the Continental GT, and in 2005 it was joined by the Continental GTC and Continental Flying Spur. The Continental Supersports arrived in 2009, adding a more performance-focused member to the line-up. Within that modern family, the 2011 GTC represents the convertible grand-touring version and is closely tied to the rebirth of the Continental name in the 21st century.

Evolution

The 2011 Bentley Continental GTC belongs to the modern generation launched in 2003, which is described as bringing sharper styling and advanced technology. The dossier points to this era’s use of W12 and V8 engines, along with sophisticated chassis features such as adaptive air suspension and a 48-volt roll control system. For the GTC, the defining feature is its convertible body, which sets it apart from the closed versions in the range. In 2011, it therefore stands as the open-top expression of the Continental, within a modern technical framework that is far more advanced than the model’s historic generations.

Variants

Within the modern Continental family, several versions are notable. The Continental GT, introduced in 2003, set the tone with its refined appearance and W12 engine. The Continental GTC, launched in 2005, carried that idea into an open-air format, making it the convertible pillar of the range. The Continental Flying Spur, also introduced in 2005, offered a saloon interpretation with a stronger emphasis on comfort and versatility. Finally, the Continental Supersports, launched in 2009, stood out as the most performance-oriented version in the line-up. Against that backdrop, the 2011 GTC is defined primarily by its convertible body style and its role as the open grand tourer within the Continental range.
