Renault Scénic E-Tech 2024
Launched in 2024, the Renault Scenic E-Tech is an all-electric family vehicle developed on the AmpR Medium platform. This fifth-generation model keeps the name introduced by the 1996 compact MPV, but replaces the original one-box layout with a raised crossover-style body. Renault offered two battery capacities, 60 kWh and 87 kWh, with claimed WLTP ranges of up to 430 km and 625 km respectively, depending on specification. Built in Douai, France, the Scenic E-Tech combines family-oriented space, rapid-charging capability and connected technology with an electric powertrain rated at up to 220 hp. Its launch received significant attention after the model won the European Car of the Year award for 2024.

History
The Scenic name first appeared on a Renault concept before becoming a production version of the Mégane in 1996. Sold as a separate model from 1997, it helped establish the compact MPV format in Europe through its spacious cabin, practical storage and flexible interior. The first generation won the European Car of the Year award in 1997, an important distinction for a family-oriented vehicle. Successive generations arrived in 2003, 2009 and 2016, gradually adopting longer body options and a more crossover-like appearance as customer interest in traditional MPVs declined.
Renault later redirected the nameplate toward electric mobility. The Scénic Vision concept, shown in 2022, previewed the design language and broader sustainability ambitions of the fifth generation. The production Scénic E-Tech electric made its public debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich on 4 September 2023, followed by the opening of French orders later that year. European customer deliveries began in spring 2024. Production takes place at Renault’s Douai facility in northern France, part of the ElectriCity industrial network.

Anecdotes
The Scenic E-Tech repeated a notable chapter in the model’s history: like the first-generation Scenic in 1997, it won the European Car of the Year title, this time for the 2024 award. Renault has also stated that the designers of the original Scenic consulted employees’ children when developing family-friendly storage ideas and interior features, an approach that helped shape the model’s practical character.
Production
The Renault Scenic E-Tech is assembled in France at the Douai plant, part of Renault Group’s ElectriCity industrial network. The facility also builds the Mégane E-Tech electric and other Renault electric models. Renault states that the Scenic’s electric motor is manufactured at the company’s Cléon facility in France. No sufficiently precise public figure has been identified for the model’s definitive 2024 production volume, so a unit total should not be assigned. Local manufacturing is nevertheless an important part of the vehicle’s identity, linking its assembly and key electric powertrain production to Renault’s French industrial base.
Press reception
Professional reception of the Scenic E-Tech was especially strong in terms of awards. The European Car of the Year jury, made up of journalists from 22 countries, gave it 329 points for the 2024 title, ahead of the BMW 5 Series and Peugeot 3008. Road tests commonly highlighted its claimed range, interior space and suitability as an electric family car. Reviewers also identified compromises, particularly the loss of some of the modularity associated with earlier Scenic generations and the vehicle’s shift from MPV to crossover format. The overall response praised Renault’s modernization of the nameplate while acknowledging that the new car serves a different purpose from its predecessors.
