Jeep Renegade 2014

The Jeep Renegade Base 2014 marks Jeep’s entry into the small-SUV segment with a compact body and a very upright design. Unveiled in spring 2014, it stands out through its seven-slot grille, round headlights and nearly square wheel arches, all of which place it firmly within Jeep’s visual language. In Base form, it sits at the entry point of the range and is best understood as the simplest interpretation of the model, without any specific equipment details confirmed in the dossier. Its exact content can vary by market, but the overall concept remains the same: a small SUV with a strong Jeep identity.

History

The Renegade arrived in 2014 as a significant model for Jeep because it opened the brand’s presence in the small-SUV segment. Its world debut took place in Geneva in March, followed by its American presentation at the New York auto show in April. The project was developed by Italian and American teams within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which gives the model a distinctive place in Jeep’s recent history. Production was also carried out in Melfi in southern Italy, underlining its strong European link.

The generation launched in 2014, identified in specialist documents by the BU code, retained a highly recognizable silhouette. Depending on the market, early versions could be fitted with petrol or Diesel engines, manual, automatic or dual-clutch gearboxes, and 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains. The Base 2014 sits at the entry point of that initial offering. It therefore belongs to the first commercial specification of the Renegade, before the 2019 update that changed the front end, the cabin and part of the engine range.

Production

The Renegade is produced notably in Melfi in southern Italy, giving the model an important European dimension in Jeep’s history. The dossier also mentions development by Italian and American teams within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. No separate production detail is given for the Base 2014 compared with the rest of the first generation.

Evolution

For the Renegade Base 2014, evolution has to be understood at the level of the whole generation rather than as a highly specific trim-by-trim story. At launch, the car already adopted the visual cues that would define it: tall proportions, round headlights, a seven-slot grille and strong Jeep graphics. The dossier also notes that first-phase vehicles could differ widely from market to market, with different engines and drivetrains.

The major turning point for this generation came with the 2019 model year. Without changing the vehicle’s basic structure, the model received a restyle with exterior revisions, a more modern lighting signature, cabin updates and changes to part of the mechanical range in several markets. Later on, the European line-up gained electrified versions, but those developments do not apply specifically to the 2014 Base. This version therefore remains tied to the original Renegade specification.

Variants

The Base 2014 is the simplest Renegade trim in the range logic, but the dossier does not confirm any trim-specific equipment for it. It should therefore be seen as the entry point within a line-up that, depending on the country, generally included Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. In that structure, the main differences concerned presentation, comfort, connectivity and, for the more specialized versions, a stronger off-road focus.

Identifying a Renegade Base also depends on the market, because trim names do not always carry exactly the same content from one country to another. Engine, gearbox and drivetrain combinations vary as well. The Base 2014 should therefore be understood as the entry specification for the model’s first year, without adding features that are not confirmed by the dossier.
