Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano 2006
The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano arrived in 2006 as the brand’s new front-engined V12 grand tourer, replacing the 575M Maranello. Styled by Pininfarina, it takes the form of a two-seat berlinetta with a long bonnet and a cabin set far back in the body. Ferrari positioned it as a car capable of combining the refinement of a grand tourer with performance levels usually associated with the most sporting models in the range. An aluminium structure, magnetorheological damping and the F1-Trac traction system were all used to narrow the gap between comfort and dynamic efficiency. The GTB Fiorano is therefore the reference version of the 599 family.

History
The 599 GTB Fiorano belongs to Ferrari’s line of front-engined V12 models and takes over from the 575M Maranello. Introduced in 2006, it was presented as a very fast grand tourer that could still retain a degree of road-going comfort. Its Pininfarina styling emphasizes classic proportions: a long bonnet, a set-back cabin and shaped rear pillars that are not only visual features but also part of the airflow management. The car uses an aluminium structure, reflecting Ferrari’s focus on stiffness and weight control.
Mechanically, the 5,999 cm³ naturally aspirated V12 is mounted longitudinally at the front and drives the rear wheels. Ferrari offered a six-speed manual gearbox, although the automated F1 transmission was the more commonly chosen technological option. The 599 GTB Fiorano later served as the basis for more focused developments: in 2009, the HGTE pack mainly altered chassis behaviour, and in 2010 the 599 GTO moved the concept toward a more extreme track-oriented character. Within the family, the GTB remains the original and most representative expression of Ferrari’s intended compromise.
