Dacia Duster 2024

The 2024 Dacia Duster Base belongs to the SUV’s third generation, unveiled in late 2023 and introduced during 2024. It retains the model’s established formula of raised ground clearance, rugged construction and straightforward equipment, while moving to the Renault Group’s CMF-B platform. In French market documentation, the entry-level specification was identified as Essential rather than Base. It focused on practical equipment, including 16-inch steel wheels, manual air conditioning, fixed roof bars and a broad set of mandatory and driver-assistance systems. The 2024 Duster also represented a major change in powertrain strategy: diesel was no longer part of the new-generation range, which instead used petrol, LPG, mild-hybrid and full-hybrid technologies depending on market and trim.

History

The Duster joined the Dacia range in 2010 and quickly became the brand’s internationally recognised model. Its formula combined a raised driving position, straightforward design and, on selected versions, four-wheel drive suited to unpaved roads. The second generation arrived in 2017, improving the structure and cabin while keeping the vehicle’s practical character. Dacia revealed the third generation in November 2023, with European deliveries beginning during 2024. The new model uses the Renault Group’s CMF-B platform, shared with several other compact vehicles. This architecture made it possible to integrate newer driver-assistance systems required by regulation and a broader selection of electrified powertrains. Production of the 2024 generation was assigned to Dacia’s Mioveni plant in Romania. Over time, the Duster attracted a wider customer base, but its design remained more functional and price-conscious than that of many conventional compact SUVs.

Anecdotes

The third-generation Duster made its first official public appearance at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, following its initial unveiling in November 2023. Dacia retained the Duster name and several of the model’s visual cues while substantially renewing its technical foundation. That balance of continuity and change allowed the manufacturer to present the vehicle as a development of the original concept rather than a complete break with its predecessors.

Production

Production of the 2024 Duster was assigned to Dacia’s Mioveni plant in Romania, the brand’s historic manufacturing site. Dacia stated that the new generation would be built there on the CMF-B platform from 2024 onwards. The available sources confirm the production location and the start of the new generation, but they do not provide a model-specific production figure for the Base specification or for the 2024 calendar year. A precise unit count would therefore be unsupported. The Duster nevertheless belongs to a high-volume industrial programme, with different powertrains and equipment levels configured for European and other international markets.

Press reception

Automotive publications generally viewed the 2024 Duster as a successful development of Dacia’s established formula. Reviews commonly praised its value, rugged appearance and practical approach, while noting that some interior materials and sound insulation remained less polished than those of more expensive SUVs. Testers also observed that the driving experience prioritised comfort and simplicity over outright handling sharpness. The arrival of hybrid powertrains was widely regarded as an important step for a model previously centred on combustion engines. These assessments apply to the third-generation Duster range as a whole and do not establish a separate press verdict for the Base specification alone.

Evolution

The 2024 redesign brought a sharper and more assertive exterior, with a Y-shaped lighting signature and more pronounced body protection. Inside, the Duster gained a more digital presentation, while its safety equipment advanced significantly compared with the earliest generations. The powertrain strategy also changed: the official launch range included the petrol-and-LPG ECO-G 100, the 48-volt TCe 130 mild hybrid, the TCe 130 mild-hybrid 4x4 and the HYBRID 140. The entry-level vehicle should not automatically be linked to one specific engine, however, because availability varied according to market, order date and trim level. This distinction is important for a vehicle identified simply as Base rather than by an official engine designation.

Variants

In France, the 2024 range was organised around the Essential, Expression, Extreme and Journey trims. Essential was the entry specification and concentrated on useful equipment such as 16-inch steel wheels, manual air conditioning, fixed longitudinal roof bars, electrically adjustable and heated mirrors, and smartphone-based media controls. Expression added more comfort and visual equipment. Extreme introduced a more distinctive interior and exterior theme, while Journey placed greater emphasis on road-oriented comfort and technology. Powertrain availability was not identical across all trims. The Base label used for this vehicle identification should therefore be treated as a generic description of the entry-level configuration, rather than as the confirmed French commercial name of a 2024 trim. Exact equipment and engine combinations depended on market and production period.
