The third-generation A8, launched in 2010, is the family to which the 2017 Base version belongs. Its styling is sharper than that of earlier generations, with a large Singleframe grille and a more horizontal cabin layout. For this generation, the emphasis is on electronic sophistication, comfort, and a broad mechanical spread, including gasoline and diesel engines plus more prestigious variants in some markets.

The 2017 A8 comes after the 2013 update, which brought styling changes, revised powertrains, and Matrix LED headlights. In Base trim, the presentation is generally more restrained than on higher-spec versions, but the car still retains the A8’s essential traits: a stately luxury sedan, a lightweight architecture inherited from ASF, and a technology-first character rather than overt flamboyance.

Within the A8 family, the Base trim is the entry point for the 2017 model year. It should be understood as a restrained take on an already very high-end sedan, not as a different concept.
