Nissan Z 2022
The 2022 Nissan Z Base opens the seventh chapter of the Z lineage, carrying forward the 370Z’s basic sports-car formula. It keeps the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and introduces a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. Its styling pulls together familiar Z themes: a long hood, a set-back cabin, and visual cues inspired by earlier generations. In Base form, the car is best understood as the standard expression of the new Z, focused on the core mechanical package rather than any more aggressive special treatment.

History
The 2022 Z belongs to a line that began in 1969 with the Fairlady Z S30, sold in some markets as the Datsun 240Z. Nissan set out to create an accessible sports coupe that could stand alongside European rivals. The formula evolved with the 1978 S130, which broadened the range, and then with the Z31, which brought a V6 into the family. The 1989 Z32 became a key milestone with a wider body, multlink rear suspension, and, on some versions, the Super HICAS rear-steer system. After the 300ZX ended in 2000, the 350Z Z33 revived the series in 2002, followed by the 370Z Z34 in 2009. The Nissan Z unveiled in 2021 continues that heritage and, in Base 2022 form, represents the standard version of this new chapter.

Anecdotes
The new Z combines references to several earlier generations, mixing cues from the 240Z, 240ZG, and 300ZX Z32 in a single shape. That makes identification interesting, because the car does not copy one ancestor so much as it blends multiple historic markers. The Z badge near the rear pillar also helps reinforce that visual continuity.
