Nissan GT-R 2007

The 2007 Nissan GT-R Base version marks a new chapter for the GT-R model with the introduction of the R35 generation. This version breaks away from its Skyline GT-R predecessors by featuring a modern V6 twin-turbo powertrain combined with a dual-clutch transmission and an innovative all-wheel-drive system with rear transaxle layout. The Base model serves as the fundamental and most general form of the R35, establishing the technical groundwork for subsequent upgrades while offering a distinctive 2+2 coupe design and robust mechanical setup.

History

The Nissan GT-R R35 generation begins in 2007 with the Base model, positioned as a standalone vehicle distinct from the Skyline lineage. This generation introduces innovative technical choices: the inline six-cylinder RB26DETT is replaced by a twin-turbo V6 VR38DETT engine, paired with a dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel-drive system based on a rear transaxle architecture. This fresh approach allowed the model to establish itself in the high-performance sports car segment. The 2007 model year therefore serves as the starting point for the R35’s evolutionary cycle, which saw continuous refinements without a full generational change.

Evolution

The 2007 Base version sets the fundamental technical layout of the R35, incorporating its key innovations. Later developments in this generation focus on increasing power, refining handling and aerodynamics, as well as updating equipment levels. Nevertheless, the original model year stands as the reference for the GT-R R35’s initial definition, representing the purest and simplest form before sportier variants like the Nismo version enhance performance and character.

Variants

The GT-R R35 Base version represents the standard and most accessible model at launch. It retains the essential technical features: the twin-turbo V6 VR38DETT engine, the dual-clutch transmission, and the all-wheel-drive system with rear transaxle architecture. Compared to the sportier Nismo variant, it is less focused on maximizing power, chassis tuning, and aerodynamics. It lacks the specific features of the GT-R50 by Italdesign, which remains a unique and limited edition. As such, the 2007 Base version forms the cornerstone and technical foundation upon which other variants have been built.
