Gordon Murray S1 LM 2025

The “S1” name is short for “Special One.” The project also became personally meaningful to Gordon Murray during his recovery from cancer; he said that working on the car gave him a demanding focus during that period. Each example is planned to come with a 500-page book documenting the project, including sketches and notes from Murray’s own design notebook.

Production of the S1 LM is limited to five cars. Gordon Murray Special Vehicles stated that all five examples had been acquired by a single customer when the model was revealed in August 2025. Chassis number one was later sold by RM Sotheby’s in Las Vegas on November 21, 2025, for $20.63 million. Several established automotive publications described the transaction as a record for a new car sold at auction, excluding charitable sales. The price paid for the other four cars and their detailed delivery schedule have not been disclosed publicly. Deliveries were announced to begin in 2026. Because the cars are bespoke commissions, final specifications may differ in finishes and customer-selected details.

Media coverage has focused primarily on the S1 LM’s direct connection to the Le Mans-winning McLaren F1 GTR and its exceptional rarity. Motor1 and Road & Track highlighted the combination of T.50-derived engineering, track-oriented aerodynamics, and a manual gearbox that preserves a high level of mechanical involvement in the hypercar class. The subsequent $20.63 million sale of the first chassis brought the S1 LM considerable attention from the collector-car market. Available articles have largely covered the concept, design, and launch rather than presenting comprehensive independent road tests. Performance claims should therefore be treated as manufacturer figures until broader third-party testing becomes available.
