S1
Unveiled on August 15, 2025, by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, the S1 LM is a road-legal supercar conceived as a modern tribute to the McLaren F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995. The “S1” name means “Special One” and identifies the first major project from the division dedicated to highly exclusive vehicles. The car retains the central driving position associated with Gordon Murray’s best-known designs, but uses completely bespoke carbon-fibre bodywork, high-downforce aerodynamics and a naturally aspirated 4.3-liter Cosworth V12 producing more than 700 horsepower. Production is planned at five examples. In ScanRacer’s data, the S1 is represented by a 2025 LM variant and a Base variant assigned to 2028; detailed public information on the latter is not yet available.

Model introduction
History
The Gordon Murray S1 story began with the creation of Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, a separate division from Gordon Murray Automotive focused on bespoke commissions, very limited production runs and projects rooted in the designer’s heritage. Its first publicly shown creation was the S1 LM, unveiled during Monterey Car Week in California on August 15, 2025, alongside the Le Mans GTR. The project originated with a client request for a contemporary interpretation of Gordon Murray’s racing legacy, particularly the McLaren F1 GTR’s overall victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. The S1 LM is therefore not presented as a restored or reproduced McLaren, but as a modern vehicle developed under Gordon Murray’s direction. Its design combines a lowered profile, more sculpted bodywork and endurance-inspired aerodynamic features. Gordon Murray Special Vehicles announced a five-car production run, linked to the original commission. The first chassis offered separately was sold in Las Vegas on November 21, 2025, for $20.63 million. ScanRacer also lists a Base variant for 2028, but the public material reviewed does not yet confirm its engine, bodywork or precise production status.
Generations
The S1 does not yet have clearly established generations in publicly available sources. The documented model is the S1 LM, revealed in 2025 as a Gordon Murray Special Vehicles commission. It belongs to a new family of highly exclusive vehicles rather than to a conventional model line developed through several industrial cycles. Its engineering sits within the wider Gordon Murray Automotive ecosystem, but available information describes it as a bespoke creation with its own bodywork and development work. The S1 LM carries forward the central driving position and lightweight philosophy associated with Gordon Murray’s cars, while remaining more than a simple production derivative of another model. Its announced five-car run reinforces its limited-series status. In ScanRacer’s reference data, two entries are currently attached to the model: LM, dated 2025, and Base, dated 2028. They should be treated as model versions or database states rather than as two confirmed generations. No manufacturer source reviewed provides details of a possible S1 Base, including its launch schedule, production volume or mechanical differences from the LM. Any direct comparison between the two should therefore remain provisional.
Key differences
The firmly documented difference concerns the S1 LM. It is a five-car bespoke commission with unique carbon-fibre bodywork, high-downforce aerodynamics, a central driving position, a six-speed manual gearbox and a naturally aspirated 4.3-liter Cosworth V12 announced at more than 700 horsepower and 12,100 rpm. Its stated target weight is 957 kilograms. These details are supported by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles material and RM Sotheby’s documentation. The Base variant listed by ScanRacer for 2028 does not yet have an equivalent public technical description. It would therefore be unsafe to assign it a specific engine, output, weight, transmission or body design. The most cautious distinction is that LM identifies the five-car series revealed in 2025, while Base represents a future or separate entry in the ScanRacer dataset whose specifications remain unconfirmed.
Photo recognition
The S1 LM is first identified by its very low profile and clear McLaren F1 influence, although its proportions are not an exact reproduction of the historic car. Its lowered roof, muscular rear haunches, roof-mounted air intake and substantial rear wing are key visual clues. The nose uses a prominent splitter and integrated lighting elements set into heavily sculpted carbon-fibre bodywork. Its tightened central section, often described as a coke-bottle shape, helps distinguish the S1 LM from a restored McLaren F1 GTR. At the rear, the central exhaust arrangement and large diffuser underline its aerodynamic focus. The cabin is equally significant: the driver sits centrally in a minimalist, driver-oriented cockpit. Reliable identification should use the complete combination of features, because prototype images, customer specifications and trim details may vary. The exterior characteristics of a possible 2028 Base version have not yet been confirmed.
Important versions
The key documented version is the S1 LM, unveiled in 2025 by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles. Its name combines “Special One” with the Le Mans reference and recalls the McLaren F1 GTR’s 1995 victory. Production is announced at five examples, using a naturally aspirated 4.3-liter Cosworth V12, more than 700 horsepower, a six-speed manual gearbox and a central driving position. The chassis offered at auction in November 2025 reached $20.63 million. The Base version, dated 2028 in ScanRacer, should be treated as a future or insufficiently documented variant: no detailed technical specification or confirmed distinction from the LM has been established in the public sources reviewed.
