Brand history

Zotye Automobile Co., Ltd. was founded on January 14, 2005, by the Zotye Holding Group. Initially specializing in the export of automotive parts, the company expanded its activities to the production of complete vehicles to meet the growing demand of the Chinese market. In 2005, Zotye signed sales contracts in ten different countries. The first car produced by the brand was the Zotye RX6400, later renamed Zotye Nomad, a compact SUV resembling the Daihatsu Terios. In 2017, Zotye announced a partnership with HAAH Automotive Holdings to introduce its vehicles to the United States under the name Zotye USA, with sales planned for 2020. However, this project was postponed. In 2018, Zotye signed a joint venture agreement with Ford Motor Company to develop all-electric vehicles for the Chinese market. Despite these initiatives, the company faced financial difficulties, with production almost entirely halted in 2020. In 2022, Zotye relaunched its production, focusing on electric vehicles and smart technologies. In 2024, the company announced agreements to expand its presence in Russia and Algeria. In 2025, Zotye faced liquidity issues, leading to a suspension of vehicle production.

Positioning

Zotye positions itself as a Chinese automobile manufacturer focused on producing affordable vehicles, including compact SUVs and electric vehicles. The company has sought to differentiate itself by offering models with attractive designs at competitive prices, aiming to meet the needs of Chinese consumers for sustainable mobility. Despite financial challenges, Zotye continues to focus on innovation and adapting to market trends, particularly by developing smart technologies and exploring new international markets.
