Rover overview

Rover history

Founded in 1878 by John Kemp Starley, the Rover Company began as a bicycle manufacturer in Coventry, England. In 1904, the company expanded into automobile production, manufacturing both passenger cars and off-road vehicles. In 1948, Rover introduced the Land Rover, an iconic off-road vehicle that led to the Range Rover series in 1970. In 1967, Rover was acquired by Leyland Motors, forming British Leyland, and continued producing vehicles under the Rover brand until 2005. Currently, the Rover brand is dormant, with its rights held by Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Tata Motors.

The brand was also involved in notable expeditions, such as the 1974 Sahara Desert crossing.
