History

The Proton Satria was launched on November 24, 1994, marking Proton's entry into the sporty compact car market. Based on the fourth generation Mitsubishi Mirage, it was produced at Automotive Manufacturers Malaysia (AMM) plant in Pekan, Pahang. Initially, the Satria was available in three variants: LSi, GLi, and SEi, corresponding to 1.3, 1.5, and 1.6-liter engines. In 1996, a facelift was performed, including a new grille and redesigned rear lights. That same year, the Satria GTi was introduced, equipped with a 1.8-liter engine producing 140 horsepower, with suspension tuned by Lotus to enhance handling. In 2004, the Satria Special Edition was launched, offering aesthetic improvements without major mechanical changes. Production of the Satria ended in 2006, after over a decade of success in the Malaysian and international markets.

Generations

The Proton Satria underwent two main generations. The first, produced from 1994 to 2006, was based on the fourth generation Mitsubishi Mirage. In 2006, Proton launched the Satria Neo, a completely redesigned version of the model, developed on a new in-house platform. The Satria Neo was produced until 2015, offering improvements in design and technology while maintaining the sporty spirit of the original Satria.

Key differences

The Satria Neo, launched in 2006, differs from the original Satria by an entirely new platform developed in-house by Proton. It features a modernized design, technological improvements, and better fuel efficiency, while maintaining the sporty characteristics that made the Satria successful.
