Mercury history

Founded in 1938 by Edsel Ford, the Mercury brand aimed to bridge the gap between Ford and Lincoln models. The first model, the 1939 Mercury Eight, featured a 95-horsepower V8 engine. After a hiatus due to World War II, Mercury was reintegrated into the Lincoln-Mercury Division in 1945. The 1950s and 1960s marked its peak with iconic models such as the 1949 Mercury Eight, made famous by James Dean in the 1955 film "Rebel Without a Cause," and the 1967 Mercury Cougar, a sporty coupe competing with the Chevrolet Camaro.
