Founded in 1986 by Li Shufu in Taizhou, Zhejiang, Geely began as a refrigerator parts manufacturer. In 1994, the company diversified into motorcycle production, and in 1997, it entered the automotive industry, becoming China's first privately-owned automaker. The first vehicle, the Haoqing, was produced in 1998. In 2003, Geely Holding Group was established as the parent company. The company acquired renowned brands such as Volvo Cars in 2010, Proton in 2017, and Lotus in 2017, thereby strengthening its international presence.
